I think you're forgetting one thing too many people forget with this type of story, it happens in asian country lol

There's a lot of cultural context we don't know or only know partially, so we can't fully grasp some nuances that the story might have

Like, other people opinion? Asians culture put a lot of importance on how people / society sees you and your family, you're not supposed to do anything that might bring shame, sometimes certain things just can't be ignored

There's also the fact that even if she accept her daughter being a lesbian she still can get backlash from other people since socially asian countries can be full of bullshit

Overall her mom actions seem to come from a good place, she always sacrificed hreself for her daughter so she thinks she heeds to do what is best for her no matter what, even if it's against what her daughter wishes

There's also the fact that she worked hard to put her through college and as she makes clear she feels she never had a choice on doing all that for her daughter, and after all that sacrifice her daughters go live her life and do whatever she wants without any care or worry about what her own mother thinks

There might be some angle of the idea that asian parents expect their children to take care of them when they're old, her mother pretty clearly feels that she'll just be abandoned and forgotten now that her daughter went to the big city

There might be more possible reasons that I'm not thinking of right now lol

I like that the author tried giving her some depth and nuance instead of making her generic homophobic and bad parent like many would, kinda reminds me of Gren Tea Bitch a little

I guess due to us lacking some of cultural context it's just easier to assume it's all about homophobia and that's it, like, of course that's definitely one reason why she's like that no doubt but it's more than that lol
