There's not much point if the hero doesn't have some kind of cheat ability. If they just arrived in a world that is completely against their common sense and start learning about it so late in life, then no matter what they'll always be behind literally anyone else on the same path. No matter what. Having godly cheat powers in this case is actually more logical than a regular person showing up in a sword-and-magic-world and climbing to importance, if not the heights, simply due to learning and training. It would take decades to catch up, and then that should be the end of it - they should only be mediocre. No one wants to read a story about someone who gives it their all and only achieves mediocrity ages down the road. Mediocrity doesn't make for good adventure plots, because unless you are 'strong' in some way - any way, really, you can't accomplish much of anything. And if you can't accomplish things you're no adventure-story hero, who are defined by their accomplishments even more than the struggle to get there.
