I really don't wanna write this, but here I go.

I have this feeling that the author is leading up to the kouhai accepting that she is not his mother anymore, and falling in love with him.

I DON'T want that to be the case, cause that is weird as hell, but you never know with these mangaka.

This chap seems to be planting the seeds for that development to happen.

I really hope that the son and his friend mato start a relationship.

she literally had her mother's pink-colored hair. If you're assuming cheating, the older sister would be more likely, but the mother loves her while she hates the younger sister. Whatever's going on is the mother's fault, not the child.
