I've been dealing with depression for about the same amount of time Nagata-sensei has, & I honestly don't have words for how powerful these kinds of stories are for people with mental illnesses. When someone whose situation is as serious as hers is can start moving forward & feeling better it's incredibly inspiring. I hope things keep improving for her.

Its more on the subject that its covering and how it covers it.
The reason is less the "lesbian" aspect, more "becoming sexually mature" and getting out of an emotional discomfort zone and realizing that "fear is holding back people from becoming happy".

@Susurrate Yes, it is. It's worth reading if you've ever struggled with depression or mental illness, at least it was to me. I wouldn't know how it resonates with LGBT people personally because I'm not, but I've resonated with it for the former reason.

Seriously what the fuck are you smoking, to consider this an award winner despite there being better takes on depression by other mangaka and more interesting lives like that feminine boy pornstar manga that serves as an autobiography? You need to acquire some taste, this manga comes off as a bland swap for their unseen creativity.

I don't necessarily think it's award-winning by that reply, it's more like I just got the impression that he just looked at the title and made that comment. Or at least I think that's why I replied like that. It was six months ago and I forgot about this comment at all. Personally it's just something that I resonated with a lot and I think it's worth reading. Reading an autobiography by someone who went through something similar to what I was going through at the time kind of enraptured me more than it otherwise probably would have.

Also the fact that you unironically throw out the word "taste" so much just screams elitist tryhard. You're seriously gonna @ everyone in the comment section from months ago just to tell them how wrong they are and how bad the manga is, lmao. You thinking that something is "objectively bad" or "not worthy of praise" isn't going to make anyone else think any less of what they've read and enjoyed. Stop being so concerned about what other people think, you'll start enjoying things a lot more.

You already stated the reason why I got all salty, people think its good just because they went through similar things and frankly its just not true. Its like deciding to fuck someone while intoxicated and regretting it later. Why would I lay judgement based on my feelings when I know my feelings change all the time? I can be mad one day about this, and then be meh about it another day. Its quite a flawed method really.

Sort of a rambling stream-of-consciousness thing that I have after reading this and also this comments section, bear with me

This put my feelings of depression and anxiety into words in ways that I had never considered before.

It was rather dull at times and maybe not deserving of an award but clearly there were plenty of people who believed otherwise so who am I to complain?

Y'all are fuckin dumb tho if you're willing to dig in and defend your opinion about a 5 chapter manga that's some silly shit lol

I gave this a 10 because of how it made me feel but whether it critically deserved that or not? Fuckin, I don't know man, I don't really care.

What I DO know, though, is that this was a powerful read for me and I really connected with the author and MC for a short while and that's important to me when reading manga.

If you didn't like it that's fine but I don't see the point in saying this stole an award when clearly the people running the contest believed it was the best manga in the batch they were judging. That doesn't mean it was pitted up against other, better manga, since it could've been submitted to a relatively smaller contest or have just lucked into a category that was weaker.

Without knowing the circumstances I wouldn't go spouting off like that generally.
