This feels like it tries to do quite a lot and only sticks the landing about half the time
Decent twists mixed evenly together with cliches that are dragged out to take up screen-time for no apparent reason. The protagonist is well characterised yet the villain makes so little sense that even the author is lampshading it. World building bits both solid and sloppy... It's that sort of "almost there" kind of story, where one expects that if it had a continuation either the author would get their feet under them and be awesome or immediately fall to pieces because that was all they got.
