Fun fact, cannabalistic mantises (which are actually only a few species) don't need to eat their mate after copulation, just as with black widows and similar spiders; that happens because the chemical need to mate is met so predatory nature, which was subsumed, returns to normal, and usually they aren't sufficiently sated prior to mating and thus need a meal now, and the mate just happens to be the nearest meal, since they aren't picky species-wise. If a female is sated prior to copulation, they will never eat the male.
