Except Taya does exist in government records. Her dad is married, owns a house, and is a registered therapist in Japan, which is way more strict about licensing for medical professions than other countries. He definitely had Taya in the family register as his daughter.

I believe Taya's mom had a particular vision for the wedding, and she wanted something traditional. So for whatever reason they haven't gotten around to doing that, probably because they were very confused with how Taya's pregnancy was going to proceed. That said, they are engaged so I'm surprised that's not sufficient. Or at least they could do the paperwork part of the marriage to get it registered with the gov even if they want to do the ceremony later. I know several people IRL who did it that way.
