Who would even want a banana with an edible skin? Of course nobody enjoys paying for the skin that's thrown away, but it's there to protect the rather delicate edible core. Back before Gros Michel was beaten by the disease, it was actually valued for it's sturdy skin, making it easy to transport without damaging the fruit.

@Kaarme You still don't want to eat the skin of the banana thou. It's a pretty common process that they spray chemicals to bananas before shipping it to it's destination to prevent it from over ripening. And let's not forget the use of pesticide.
