I've read a whole lot less shoujo than shounen (or seinen), but it's more common in shoujo for the romance to happen much sooner than in shounen or seinen. Perhaps Uiha is just too easily embarrassed to read shoujo where the couple would actually keep doing couple things for multiple chapters if not volumes.
