I'm glad it's presented as legal right out of the gate, but if your were going to go that far you may as well have had him graduate high school first? Starting college soon, entering the workforce, ect. Him having the wherewithal to wait a bit longer would have shown some great character on his part.
I guess still being in high school is meant to be a point of drama going forward.
