Firstly, don't delve into the hypocritical pit of double standards regarding age gaps in fiction, or reality, you'll never find bottom. Suffice it to say, past 18 it really shouldn't be a consideration for anyone other than those involved, save for entertainments sake.

As far as being a self-insert... How she's drawn is a factor, but not a necessarily integral one. The title escapes me, but there was one with a very similar theme where the focus was how kind and loving she was, and she was drawn quite "plain" (a little heavier in theme, more psychological, with the baggage they both carried) but the "beauty" was of character, not physical. I think it's flirting with being a self-insert work, from either direction, but doesn't dive right in. On the one hand, you have an attractive and clearly idolized female potentially being obtained, and on the other, an attractive YOUNG man who is clearly dedicated(obsessed) potentially being obtained. Both perspectives clearly demonstrate the fantasies both characters hold, it's plainly stated even, the males just happens to be a little less "directionless" and vague, unlike the females. It's not an overwhelming aspect, and for me, doesn't detract from the "fluffy" charm of the storyline, as I find I can simply appreciate it as is, without needing to seek deeper meaning.

Beyond that, I'm reminded that it's easy to forget that the purpose is STILL to make money, so having aspects that appeal to the largest possible demographic will be present... I just don't let it bother me if its done decently well. Not everything is Goodbye Eri.

What is there to even be defensive about or call degen here? The male lead is literally a legal adult from the moment he turned 18. Any arguments about the gap in their age is moot because they are both adults. Firstly, I will thank you for attempting to explain yourself further, and apologize if my statements were maybe too harsh. I tend to speak bluntly. I do understand the difficulty of expressing oneself not in their native language.

To continue, your statements did imply that you seemed to take issue with the ML calling himself an adult merely because he turned 18. I assume because you consider him not mentally mature enough to make that claim. However, we as readers can't reasonably make such broad claims about a character without being given context. As we have seen, the ML has been through (literal) growing pains as a human and individual, and for all intents and purpose appears to be a young man with a good head on his shoulders... just that he is completely enamored with his older former sensei. He took her offhand statement about his age seriously, and worked towards making himself appealing to her when he came of age. To me, that level of determination belies a maturity well beyond his physical age, even if it stemmed from a childhood crush. But, I have no external context for that claim myself.

Lastly, yes. I'm aware this is fiction. However, far too many people share the mentality nowadays that age gap relationships are wrong even if both parties are adults, and that is the stance that you appeared to be supporting. Time will tell if our ML is mentally mature enough to call himself an adult, but since he is technically a legal adult, there really shouldn't be any complaints.

Even tho this is 100% wrong and never should've happened but my aunt had a friend in highschool back in the 80's who like maybe less than a week after graduation married the auto shop teacher who was like early to mid 30's and she was 18 and it was highly likely that stuff went on before she graduated but according to my aunt that friend with 3 kids and +30 years later still happily married to that man so while this manga will hopefully be slightly less creepy and keep this somewhat cute there are real life instances of stuff like this happening
