i thought the original, vol1 was not bad but then they messed it up in vol 2,

went a completely different direction,probably not technically a genre switch but felt like it. The feel changed. Author tried to blame it on the artist, no it was the story line you wrote.

and it got cancelled. The first two chapters look like the first three except paired down. I'd rather he just admit, I screwed up, drop vol 2 of the other and continue with a new volume 2 rather then a rewrite. Admittedly only two short chapters but they look mostly the same as the first three of the other.

I misread and thought it was new author not artist. I won't be hanging around. I have little sympathy for an author that messes up his story then basically say I had my fingers crossed, doesn't count, do over.

Checked out the comments from the original work, apparently it flew high but exploded inmediately after exiting orbit due to a fuel tank rupture.

It says it's a reboot, so i hope it will be better than the original?

Woot a reboot!, hopefully the artist and script writer stay the same this time. S1 was great, but it kinda fell apart in S2 when to original artist left.

I don't know why everyone is crapping on vol.2 of the original run, I prefer that art to vol.1. I also appreciate vol.2's explanation regarding how he got to hell. Sure some other things weren't explained, but the 2nd vol. Wasn't finished. Who knows what else would have been explained. Don't know why they changed the succubus needing to take MC's virginity to just needing a kiss to take his soul. Maybe there was some controversy? It seemed like Satan had an interesting character and could have probably been reasoned with to some extent. I'd like to see more character development with him and Melphas. (not sure if that's her name)

I hope the team follow the original closely. But it seems they're skipping themes that were in the original. If they're going to just reboot the series, would be smart to redo everything and add some extra footage when it's called for. It could give the writer more time to fix any issues with the plot or come up with more ideas if they want to make a 3rd vol.

Some complain that they felt the series was going though a genre shift but this seemed acceptable here. I mean the MC was dealing with demons and there were already dark elements in the 1st vol. If it just stayed a slice of life comedy with hardly any explanation or progression of the plot, I personally would get bored. Reading the story would have become more of a chore than than an enjoyment. I like the new artstyle here, but needs more vibrant colors like in the original's vol.1 and vol.2. Also not a fan of Mac's new design. He looks more like a normal moody teen than a teen prodigy with intimidating eyes. But, that's just my opinion.

And I'm guessing I'll get plenty of hate for this.😒

Digi-Lib, I won't give you hate for your opinion, we all have them and we all like different things. I don't like the second volume of the previous series. As to why, a hopefully better explanation then I gave earlier.

i'm not a major fan of genre changes if they're large vs small. To me small is slice of life drifting to drama or reverse. Just an example but slapstick going to tragedy or tragedy switching to slapstick to me isn't going to work. To me the first volume was kind of slice of life along with growth. Then it became more of an action, fight story with some humor but not enough and definitely a different feel. You may have been bored with the slice of life but many weren't. To me a story where the guy falls in love with a succubus and she falls in love with him has so many slice of life directions it could have gone without getting boring that a genre change wasn't necessary. Maybe a better word then genre shift is direction or feel. To me major genre changes are hard to make work well. I don't think the author made it work well. I also got the impression that the author had a lot of control so this affects my future expectations of him.

In vol 1 there were three main characters, at the start of vol 2 one of the characters is dropped. After 14 chapters unless I missed it she is never even mentioned let alone the absence explained. To me that is another main issue with the series. To me it screams bad writing.

Even the author didn't seem to like vol 2. From the author in his notice (what a trifecta):

So in the end both the artist and I ended up making a series that I didn't enjoy writing (beyond some Lucifer scenes), and the artist didn't enjoy drawing, and the readers didn't enjoy either.

He also notes reader reaction was mostly negative. To me this was a failure. If you are going to do a genre shift you need to do it well enough that as least one from this list should enjoy it, author, artist, majority of the fans.

Not trying to burn this down. I sometimes read comments if I am on the fence on whether to read a series so I just want to post a comment that might help those who do like I do.
