thanks so much for the translation and your hard work! :hearts:

okay this manga is now personally targeted because "VANITAS" and as can be seen from my icon i'm an absurd jun mochizuki fan. vanitas no carte represent 💙💜

anyways thematically vanitas being a part of the story's themes and narrative is insane. i had already noticed that the painting kyo was looking at in previous chapters was a traditional and historic vanitas painting. it's as the translations notes say and i'll elaborate further here, "vanitas" has a lot of meanings both literally translated from latin and thematically as the artistic style but mainly it's about how nothing matters. it's a philosophy of absolute pessimism where nothing anyone can do will change or mean anything in the end, that even fleeting hope ultimately leads to despair, that the only thing we can count on to be a true constant is death.

why does this mangaka know me personally and want me dead

anyways i'm deeply familiar with the use of vanitas in storytelling as everyone can probably tell. in terms of myther i can see extremely transparently where this will take the story and kyo's character in that he clearly has staked his entire existence and life and meaning in possibly the most uncaring and soulless and futile system imaginable, the government. and he's proud of it! and he's not even necessarily unaware of how kind of pointless his existence is, he really finds pride in being just a cog in the machine because he believes what that machine stands for is beyond him in every way. however he clearly lives in a very fragile state and his childishness when he's around yuri shows this. for the inevitable part of the story in which kyo collapses and actually feels the full weight of the entire pointlessness of his existence and life even in terms of what he perceived to be important, it will be yuri's fault. kyo is sadly doomed and has always been and it's doubtful that even the time he's alive for and existing in the world as the IF that he is, will ever even mean anything

yasuda teki really locked tf in making this huh. cannot wait to see myself be proven right (or wrong, please let me be wrong) as the story continues
