I dunno, I really liked the idea that this was always a hoax, it felt like it too. Making it actually supernatural is weird. My current guess it that it never was N, it was Z, heralding the end (of the world, maybe?). Also there definitely is a change with pre N episodes being all non supernatural and post N episodes being only supernatural.

Also the black censorship in the early episodes, one of them being most likely Christianity, is this a very weird retelling of the apocalypse?

wouldn't most people in the community and local news organisations consider that the five bodies found near the site 5 people previously vanished to be linked. do these kids not have families waiting for answers?
