Oh shit, the MCA! I’ve been there a couple of times - it’s sort of like the Art Institute, but more for modern art.

And yeah, I get the author’s reaction. While most people think of art as anything aesthetically pleasing, the MCA really just shows you a painting of Jesus superimposed on a basketball player or a police lineup of sneakers or a church program and goes “what do you think it means?” Some things will resonate with you, others won’t. That’s how art works.

I myself went when they had an exhibit about the history of comic book artists in Chicago. It’s definitely neat to compare and contrast how comic book artists developed the medium compared to mangaka, and it also got me this out-of-context panel from a 70s comic which really spoke to me

I actually asked this to a buddy of mine familiar with the area and there is an actual place called the Billy Goat Tavern that serves Obama burgers in that area so it's a place name visual joke it seems.

Half tempted to use these chapters as a "juntaro brain rot guide" to places to eat and visit if I'm ever in chicago
