some unsolicited chopsticks advice since this manga is on the topic anyways:
never cross the working ends, which is said often. the reason why crossing your chopsticks is not good is because you end up just rubbing and sliding the sides together and your range of motion becomes limited. during bean picking exercises, ive seen total beginners who cross their chopsticks have their beans slip because they in a way also end up also rubbing and sliding the beans out of their grip. standard chopsticks form works because it pinches things in place top to bottom. instead of side-to-side crossing, do top to bottom pinching. the only place your chopsticks would cross while holding them properly is the back ends past the rest of your hand. though that would happen when you try to pick up something wide and dense enough to be held like that, but i dont see a situation where you would do that with chopsticks.
