So obviously the 'error' is that she's not the Shinju whose name is on the license, and that girl is actually buried in the suitcase? And, just guessing, but it seems like she's going to turn against him when she finds out he's pitying her now, and he's becoming like everyone else...

My guesses are either that there's a baby in the case or another girls skeleton, maybe she had a sibling. Especially for the latter since she's confirmed to be her mothers daughter but not her fathers, and the father was wandering around her apartment asking for his Shinju back. Sibling murdered by the mother and only she had a real identity and our Shinju was never documented with a birth certificate or anything? Because if her mother had two documented children it would've definitely came up in court. It could be similar to Johan and Anna from Monster if anyone else had also read that.

I still think maybe it's a baby skeleton because of how Arata says he didn't know the abuse was that bad so perhaps it means he didn't know it was sexual abuse. This could also make sense if the baby was called Shinju, and that's who the dad was asking for.

Surely the relative ages make this impossible? I don’t remember when the mother had Shinju but she would have to be mid 30s at this point at least.

yeah, I felt like the ages might be a problem and didn’t feel like rereading To get the timeline. But! -I was thinking if she was abused, and had the child young, the child - living to about 12/13, could place the mother in mid to late 20s. That abuse could be a motive for the murders as well as an explanation for how she raised the child

I just got way out of my usual genre and gave this a go. Ended up reading up to this point in past few days. Love how complex this stuff is. I've read a few of your guys theories and I gotta say, how would they extend it in more than 50 more chapters, if it were to be solved now, is mystery for me, so I'll rather not think and just let this piece surprise me because it's pretty cool read.

But if she's actually the mother them wouldn't that have been found out in the DNA test they did to confirm her identity? It was mentioned earlier right ? That she might not actually be who she said she was but they tested her as part of the trial?
