ok but what is with that thing that anime/manga characters do with their eyes? say something like "it's too troublesome" and close one eye while looking at the others???

Wait, this is a good thing actually, they are not in an Island but within a civilized nation, instead of doing the dumb typical attempt at crossing the border, they can just find an embassy of a neutral country, seek asylum and convince them to smuggle them across the border, or perhaps get such neutral country to move them to their country and from there they head back to their home country, problem solved.
