lol be interesting if tani takes in this tabby 8D; altho if he's the 'cat collecting old man' it prolly would be too much if every stray followed him home versus him setting up something , but seems like ppl don't rly care/do anything about strays other than like neuter and release so i guess they don't consider them too 'invasive' even tho some ppl are uptight about 'outdoor cats' (tho 'balance of nature' discussions outside i'm surprised anyone would trust their pet to go out on their own as opposed to on a leash versus just a backyard b/c most cats def wouldn't come back if called/run off if they hear loud car noises and dogs but i don't live in an area where you could just see cats chill)

From what I've heard, outdoor cats tend to be pretty good about coming back home. After all, that's where the food and safe shelter are.

The bigger concern is that they won't come back because they met a coyote, eagle, wolf, car, etc.

i guess it depends, dogs liked me instantly compared to cats (tho i get it, but given the vids i've seen i wouldn't be surprised if japanese cats were just friendlier b/c they knew certain ppl would give them treats), but i can't imagine a cat tolerating me, let alone liking me enough to 'return' lol but i'm prolly too old/impatient as opposed to like adopting a kitten when i was still 14 to spend time 'bonding' together (tho cats do get pretty chill on their own to where you could leave the house for a half a day and they wouldn't get separation anxiety)

But yeah my neighborhood is full of dogs, even if they're contained by fences i imagine some cats would get scared off just hearing them barking and getting lost but at the same time, plenty of 'lost dog posters too b/c ppl don't tend to chip/insert trackers inside collars

Putting cats on leashes is weird af, must be an american thing.

My family has owned many outdoor cats over the years, I can tell you they didn't last more than a year or two. Poison, diseases, they catch all kind of stuff out there and we never see them again next morning. On the contrary, the last pair of cats they've adopted are still alive... 15 years later. But they're indoor cats only.
In my opinion, if you have a huge house (more than 150 m2), keeping your cats in will definitely make their lives longer. Don't do that in small apartments though, it's abuse!
