Oh right. This legend is a thing. I forgot about bakeneko.
So she's like 400 years old guys it's fine
I checked and the ages given for a cat to become one of these range from 7 to 13, which means she could be a perfectly reasonable age for a schoolgirl. It's also surprising. Like, what, nobody in Japan kept a cat for 13 years and noticed it was still a perfectly ordinary cat? That's only like middle-aged for a cat, not super rare.

Another take on the myth says they can be any age but had to be killed brutally by a human. Uh, don't go read the Wikipedia page about this myth if you're squeamish about cats being mistreated, I'll just say that.

Nice, there is a small detail, she said that only her parents know, then, her parents are bakenekos (racial) or they become bakenekos too, by the small boy with a switch, i think that they are a racial group, maybe descedents from the original bakeneko
A page before, the tiger cat received his power from someone, if there is a cat god giving powers, why a complete family?

So based on the last chapter I'm guessing there are two types of this bakeneko.
The first one are those who born with the power and already blend in with human like this girl and the second are those who just got/borrow the power like that orange cat boy.

Wow, that went pretty dark all of a sudden . . .

Hopefully Mii-chan's parents are actually a loving pair of humans who just happened to make the mistake of keeping their cute little kitty cat around a little too long, rather than . . . some of the alternatives . . . .

Glad I'm not the only one that read it as bakaneko.

There is a similar myth regarding guardian dog spirits that is... how the fuck anyone thinks to do that to a dog in the first place and second to think the dog would PROTECT YOU after you did it? Nah dude.
