Spoiler: Animorphs ending

Animorphs team went public, and got the entire Earth to fight against the Yeerk. The Yeerk got defeated and kicked out of Earth. However, Rachel died in the process. Tobias, not being able to cope with her death, flew to the forest and never be heard of again. Jake, however, decided to continue the fight on another planet to take back his brother, who has now become the new leader, and Ax.

Meanwhile, Cassie and Marco returned to normal life, albeit getting instantly rich and famous

I'd assume the neighbours just were more vigilant about "letting the cat wander outside". It is quite dangerous, even if natural, and many people raise their cats exclusively inside (if you see an orange collar with a note/number on it, it may mean that cat is an exclusively indoors cat and currently giving their caretaker a heart attack).
