it kind of does make sense tho, monster guy wants to be with his family as a human, so he goes on a journey to try to find a way to become human, said journey takes way longer than expected and then his only finding was how to turn others into monsters recently, after which point immortal guy noticed he took too long for nothing and now just gave up as he realized that he has become but a stranger to the family he wanted to be with and is all his fault.

It could also be that it is not something he ever thinks about, rather he probably never thought he would care about someone enough that he would want to share their timespan since his family is also immortal.

If it never comes up you would not really give it much mind after all
