Good manga. I'm firmly in the camp that prefers this interpretation of the story over the TV anime, especially with how much more well-defined Gendo is as a character. I imagine the 19-year serialisation allowed for Sadamoto to comfortably tell a revisionist version of the story that irons out all the contentious aspects and refines the ambiguous ones. I was particularly pleased to see that Magma Diver and A Human Work got snubbed from the story.

I must admit that I feel quite let down by the EoE adaptation, however - particularly the instrumentality sequence. The anime version is one of the few pieces of cinema I consider to be truly perfect, though it's only perfect relative to the medium of film and how it's paced. I would have preferred a more long form version of instrumentality in this manga - perhaps three or four times longer than it is currently.

hard agree. most of the characters were more well-rounded than they were in the anime, and i liked the "semi-alternate universe" they ended up in. this ending sits with me a lot better than EoE did. i can also sort of see your point about the instrumentality arc being longer, but the movie version pissed me off so much i was almost half glad that they didn't spend much time on it :dogkek:

So Yui's desire for Shinji to someday (in the future, I guess?) see the snow is finally fulfilled...

Seeing Shinji's, ahem, fated reunion with Asuka sure is nice :meguupog:

However, seeing Kensuke immediately afterwards completely ruined the mood for me, but this is likely only because of some rebuild-related stuff I heard...

In any case, contrary to what I feel toward most parts of this manga, I think I might actually like this epilogue more if it was made more similar with its anime counterpart, The End of Evangelion's final scene (but without the strangling).
