Oh dang didn't expect kisaragi station, or rather, surprised it wasn't the first story lol

lol as useful as a train would be in my city/county (well there is apparently a station downtown that can go to some big city near me) i'd already have anxiety about being by myself/getting lost, supernatural stuff aside (but that would probably make it even scarier for a JP reader b/c most of the time they have no choice /but/ to use a train, so if shit goes down you can't do anything about it ("Rice worship aside" i'm surprised not more foodie horror stories like "x ingredient is recalled/local live stock is poisonous/too bad quality to consume" or so even if it doesn't end in a zombie story versus dying of sickness/poison)

The original was probably a made-up story. When lost, usually one would try to contact family/close friends/police, not post on BBS. Especially not on an occult BBS.

Tbf she also did call the parents and police; maybe some ppl would post on a subreddit after attempting to contact their relatives, just to 'leave a mark/presence' considering how hardcore the supernatural chasers/cryptid/alien theorists are on reddit

The original 2ch post this was based on has been translated by vgperson if anyone's interested in reading it.

Also the people acting like this might be real are hilarious. Because, yeah, a train arriving at a nonexistent station is totally realistic. And it's even more realistic for that story to then be included in a horror anthology manga.

As someone who has travelled a lot on buses and trains I can very much relate to the unsettling feeling you get when they're not travelling on the route you're familiar with. Curse you unscheduled road/track maintenance that forces them to take a wholly different route to the destination.

Yeah I love horror stories but those that are presented this way always take me out a little. Shockingly, my most favorite horror stories ever is structured the same way but written in a more believable manner. Anansi Goatman

Call the police? Turn on gps?
https://mangadex.org/chapter/c586ba32-abfc-40a5-95f6-d9530e39e8e5/15 She literally did and got scolded/assumed to be a prank

But if the implication, like all the other chapters, is that this happens for a 'supernatural' reason unless they happen to have a supernatural department/detective that somehow is able to fight against ghosts (which would be a whole other series itself), they literally couldn't do anything about it or get stuck/spirited away with her if they tried to 'rescue' her (unless there's some epilogue where it'd be as if her records/disappeared as if she never existed [other than the fact that there was like a 2chan board of it])

And there it is, the infamous Kisaragi Station. One of the best adaptions I've seen frankly. The back-and-forth 2ch posts interspersed with the faceless posters from all over really made it.

To be fair, her first posts were about the train ride running longer than usual and the other passengers sleeping. So she wasn't lost at that point, just venting to people online. Heck, the thread's title is "live reporting on strange situations", and at that point the situation was just strange and not really an emergency. It wasn't really in "call people for help" territory until after she got off and the train left.

It's absolutely made up, but I find the presentation to be organic and pretty realistic compared to a lot of similarly formatted stories. I'd probably do the same as her with how mundane it started, and continue sharing updates as it escalated. It's pretty normal to try to seek out other people for company/support when you're in a scary situation, and chatting online feels more comfortable than talking out loud in a place that's otherwise completely silent.

Everyone going 'the original is MADE UP' has the same air as people going 'erm didn't you know Wrestling.... is FAKE' like yeah. Take my hand.

Anyways, I really liked this ones tone. Had the feeling of being trapped in a nightmare in a pleasant, upsetting way, and the cuts to the different people taking it seriously, taking it unseriously.... really good.
