And some more comments from @mogu... Feel free to ping him to debate them!

P2 Pa 4 I really dislike Hotaru's god-power. And how he suddenly tries to give her a weakness for it but then immediately makes it not matter.
P2 Pa 5 Would be highly sought after, as opposed to being personally invited to what has been made out to be one of the largest gaming companies in the world. What? Also: She will be completely unable to do any work as she is now, so I'm going to leave what I consider to be the most important design job in the entire game up to her.

P3 Pa 4 As she describes it, not particularly.

P6 Pa 3 According to a lot of gaming news that isn't the result of either of those things.

p8 pa 8 While in school? And didn't they say she had basically no work experience?

I'm sure some people are going to read the chapter and say "but she's got a weakness!", but that's kind of missing the point.

The weakness given is extremely vague and only appears through expository dialogue. It doesn't really affect her in any meaningful way, and she's not shown overcoming it in any meaningful way.

It's presented like a character flaw, but not ever really treated like one.

"Were nearing the end of production"
But you haven't even concepted a main villain who chases the player THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE GAME?
wat

EDIT: I commented before reading the whole thing like a dumbdumb, they just want her to redesign it

@mogu

p8 pa8, Hotaru got commissioned to do some light novel illustrations while she was in the club with Aoba and Nene. That's a start at the very least, and she might have kept on getting commissions afterwards, it doesn't specify any time frame.

And so far i'm really not liking Catherine, like, at all.

I know this isn't the first time New Game went full on Drama mode, but I'm starting to feel the drama is unnecessary. At this point I doubt the SoL or Comedy tag is even fitting for NewGame!. I'm aware that some kind of conflict is still required no matter how Slice of Life the show is, but by this point I'm pretty sure the show is way off from what's it set off to do at the start. This is no longer cute girls doing cute things and sometimes making game(s). This is Cute girls making gaming while playing a soap opera. I have argued that the show have 'matured' before, but I'm really starting to question whether or not that's even necessary. The same way parents don't always want their child to grow up, I feel that the show should've stick with original shtick. Cute girls doing cute things , sometimes making game, and without work drama.

Sorry for the rant, just have to get it out of my system.

Oh wow, while this drama in SoL is indeed a bit shocking, it's not something that's unlikely to happen in an actual game company, I'd say this is just reality hitting you in the face.

And I second the notion to recommend Stella no Mahou

This is absolutely selfish and genuinely puts the whole project in jeopardy.
I'm glad everyone else complained in Blue Rose complained about the situation even if it's ultimately pointless.

@woods
@Harambe
I honestly wouldn't have that much of a problem with drama if the drama was good or if the conflicts were actually logical and there was some proper and satisfying developments and conclusions but it's all just so half-baked. It's forced drama for the lack of a better description. And you cannot even suspend your disbelief or think "Yeah, that makes sense. I can see suits pulling that bullshit" like the old stuff between Aoba and Kou anymore with the recent happenings.

@PankoPanko

And I don't think it's "main villain", it's probably more something like Death from Persona series where a super powerful enemy will chase you if you linger around an area too long. Or like a sub-boss that appears to scare you a few times until you can beat him at as the penultimate boss.

But yeah, I agree with others - late into production they bring in a newbie with no experience that nobody wants to work with and so far has only generated animosity among long-term employees... great idea.

They're going for something that is kinda like what Ko went through when she started out, but I don't really see where it's going
Maybe she'll screw it up later on and have a chat with Ko? Idk...

@PankoPanko

Reminds me of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis' Nemesis and the Nemesis system associated with Nemesis, to be honest.

Nemesis IIRC, is conceived at the absolutely last moments of production and Nemesis turns out pretty popular. Of course, making a Nemesis in this day and age technology would be torture, but it is not like Nemesis has not been done before.

@ixlone @mogu You guys seem to be forgetting, Hotaru doesn't have 'god powers' she is the 1 100% dedicated artist we've seen in the entire series. She unlike everyone else hasn't had aspirations of doing game work or anything else. She has been fully into developing her art, and from the get go she was actually talented. That's not god powers, that's just what happens when you hone a single skill. Just because you're a 'professional' doesn't make you a better artist than someone who doesn't do professional work you can tell that by looking at some of the artist on the internet today compared to some of the artist we see making manga and such. Professional just means you have experience putting out the volume of work needed to maintain your professional career, but it doesn't mean a single piece will be better than a single piece from 'some random dedicated artist'. And Hotaru's weakness is actually a pretty big thing, that's literally why she's being given months to design a -single- character. practically no company would give that under normal circumstances. And the reason her weakness isn't something bigger is because one, she's not the main character, and secondly, she does have more just they're not relevant yet, and that is her inexperience as a professional.

Also @ixlone this is not one of the biggest game companies in the world. What's special about this is it's one of the few french ones. That was mentioned earlier, like way way earlier. BlueRose is not a big company, they're pretty small, but they do make good quality games, and they're one of the few from France. (This was said around when the company was introduced, I don't remember exactly what chapter)

@midoriha This is actually not very selfish. As Catherine said, Hotaru is a better artist than all of them(Ko probably is as well) this project is nearly over and she has to come up with some way to get the team to accept them. Hotaru probably has the skills to be the AD with a little be if refining, but do you think the rest of the staff would accept her being anything more than bottom of the barrel one their next project if she doesn't do something absolutely amazing in this one? Catherine is trying to quickly power up the company and to do that she needs them to accept Hotaru, Ko is easier becasue Ko has background.

We still talking about putting the main villain redesign to a newcomer while ditching the design of the Art director. It feel like Peco all over again when Aoba was given the characters design instead of Kou because the author need to have characters's progression.And how Catherine handle the situation is bad. You need to realise that 1) She hire a newcomer and made her do the main villain design because you don't like the ones of the Art Director and 2) Tell Kou that if Hotaru can't do it, Kou will had to do it in 2 FREAKING DAYS. Even for a little compagny it's not acceptable, it's the main villain design not a random monster design, treat that with more respect.
Just because they are littles compagnies doesn't mean they can do bad choicesand get away with it.

I don't doubt Kou could pull this thing off in the last two days before release, but are the 3D modelling, motion and collision code supposed to happen only after release in that scenario?
I don't get that supervisor, what timeline is she thinking on?

@WillLi: I don't think Hotaru could qualify as art director, because she lacks the required knowledge of how to work in a company. She has the artistic skill to perhaps be a lead character designer, but even for that she lacks the training to functionally do that job in an office setting.

Hotaru is an artist whose passion is in creating art. That's allowed her to develop her artistic skills to a high level, but that doesn't mean she can just jump in to a management position in an art department and be able to do it.

This series is getting depressing to read.

Fuck it, though.
