I've always had the suspicion that his "partner" doesn't exist and he simply lied because he wanted to avoid Midori's romantic advances despite clearly being in love with her.
What I'm not sure about is the reason behind his rejection, but I guess we'll hear about it in upcoming chapters

Isn't he enamored, or in love, with Nezumi? Like the korean guy commented. Not sure how that came to be but it makes the most sense since Butan seemingly cares little for literally anyone's lives except for hers. He said they could kill anyone except not hurt her lol

Because I dont think its a place from guilt, considering he tried to kill Midori and she was actually dirtied as a child while Nezumi managed to incapacitate him when he tried. Idk we're still missing some context from what that whole meeting on the laptop was told to him that made him switch sides

On one hand happy she is alive on another feeling that it's fucking stupid that she is alive after having her body smashed by that mountain of a man that grabbed that bookshelf like it was made out of feathers
