Seriously. There's nothing even hinting at this, and the amount of bullshit he went through completely on his own doesn't make sense. If anything, it feels like the author changing the story to align with fan theories, although I don't know what Japanese readers were saying about the story. This twist was definitely talked about here, despite there being no reason for it to happen. This is just over complicating what should be a simple, cathartic climax for the story. Do we really need relationship drama in this?

wait, what was the twist? was Ao working with the yakuza? when did we EVER get any indication of that? in the first chapter, the yakuza beat tf out of him and try to make Nezumi kill him. what makes everyone here think Ao kun was working with the people who killed his sister?

It's felt like that since the tables turned and Nezumi got the upper hand. At this point, the author would have to introduce a new set of antagonists to keep the story going. And they would have to be connected to the existing plot in some way. Can't see that happening without a significant amount of convoluted flashbacks.

Just to make sure, I began to re-read from the beginning and in chapter 6, Nezumi-chan falls asleep saying

"Thank you for finding me"

while Ao-kun is wide awake and immediately flashbacks to a younger Nezumi-chan killing some woman with the brother LITERALLY LOOKING LIKE YOUNGER AO-KUN.

7 years lines up with about the age of what looks like middle-school Ao-kun and Nezumi-chan then to collegeish age now. Also if they sent Nezumi-chan for the assasination, that means his sister would have connections to the underworld which would make sense of why Ao-kun was too after his sisters death.

Ao-kun "found" Nezumi on purpose. This has been planned since the beginning but I still think that Ao-kun did everything out of pure love of Nezumi. A real true-love at first sight.

This part is just my theory but my bets is on his older sister was his only but abusive family, fell in love with Nezumi for killing her, then got involved with the gang looking into Nezumi, and only allowed Ao-kun to get into a relationship/meet her if he was their puppet to play with her emotions.
