He takes no pleasure from killing, in fact, after a campaign he ends up puking, hating himself and calling himself a murderer. He gives someone he sees in need money and so long as it doesn't compromise the goal of the war, or atl doesn't seem to, he will rather live and let live.

He is a guilt ridden person that hates that he is taking any enjoyment from fighting, and hates himself even more the more he enjoys it.

And there was no order to search for them. Since the higher ups probaly thought they died when the father was killed by rebells. So he did as always what was needed.
