So far there have been very few "malicious ghosts", most of the malice, in fact, came from humans. The example is in this chapter, in which this entire land was cursed by the greed of the guy from the S Family, performing rituals with the doggies~But man it's wild how malicious most of the ghosts in the setting are. Thanks for the TL!
In the previous case, the caretaker of the land seemed to know his lineage, maybe even pointing to the direction that his family were also caretakers of some god's or spirit's land. Presumably the one involved to the death of his daughter? and ultimately the reporter, i guess. This is such a fuckin' good series. Did we know he was an exorcist before this? Cause it's very clearly related to her death. The dude hated the supernatural, for very good reason. We're constantly seeing him throw up or get attacked or get sick or get infested with bugs or...
He actually just wanted to photograph food, man. He wouldn't become an exorcist for any other reason than losing his very close friend to something supernatural.
It sounds like the ritual, while cruel, went off just fine and wouldn't've caused any more trouble. The issue was the guy making those replacement head dolls unwittingly turned the dogs' bodies into receptacles for evil spirits. This ties back to the beginning of the chapter, where Asama mentions that it's better to have those dolls inhabited by something harmless, like human ghosts. So far there have been very few "malicious ghosts", most of the malice, in fact, came from humans.
