That is my one major gripe about this. I understand telling the story and being able to flip flop timeline before MC shows up, alternate time line MC not there, og timeline etc. It just gets convoluted using it for stuff like this making it seem so out of place.

It's because this can't happen now that Kanamori's still in the school. This was how Mashio Harumi originally started his rise to power, but we know this can't be how it goes in the current Gaku timeline. So every chapter of the Gaku timeline from this point on must be read with the understanding that Harumi's been "robbed" of his "kingly right" thanks to Kanamori staying there.

And BTW, it just occurred to me that in the even earlier timeline Mashio Harumi's rise would have been even more rapid than this because without Wagatsuma, Kanamori would have had no way of gaining the power he did. That's why we saw him in Wagatsuma's 2013 as just a married politician with a regular affair. In the true original timeline without time-travel shenanigans, Kanamori's political career would have started even earlier too. He wouldn't have grown up as a delinquent or lost his eye to Harumi. Aoba's leader would have been Shiranui Roku, and since we know he would lose to Momokuri Jou, Harumi would have become leader of Aoba much earlier and all the poser leaders of Kanamori's generation would have been just mincemeat before him.

and with messed up childhood story of Wagatsuma in the future. Got abandoned by his dad (Kanamori), and just got raised by his single unhealthy mom alone. All the effort by Kanamori & his GF for ran away from the town because he couldn't stand with the punks in the town and got constant bullied by them. Then, secretly got married with his GF who followed him to ran away and having a child, just to be separated at the end. Kanamori was terribly unresponsible father in the true original timeline. In the future timeline in post-Wagatsuma impact, Kanamori became politician with a lost of his left eye.. Wagatsuma may have had gone and erased from this branch of future timeline.

Though, at least in the impact on the future timeline of the post-Wagatsuma disappearance, Kanamori won't dump his girlfriend (Wagatsuma mother) this time as we can see the woman that stay with Kanamori side when he participated at mayor election in 2017 (chapter 59), remain the same person who followed him to ran away from the town (after Wagatsuma gone), and she maintained her health condition too. Both being loyal each other than ever since Wagatsuma time slipped, even though Kanamori making fun of Wagatsuma mother's feeling sometime. The woman at Kanamori's house yard that been shown in Wagatsuma past (at chapter 77) was a different person that have an affair with Kanamori. Still feel bad for Wagatsuma though.

Me too, although this timeline was already altered by Wagatsuma whose arrived from 2013 in an half asses scenario. I would also like to dig dipper about a true original timeline of the rise of Mashio before the time travel shenanigans, so hopefully Author would reveal it all, someday or just make a separated side story/Gaiden series out of this main series
