I would actually prefer if they have a wholesome start to their relationship. But I think Kanamori did something calculated to get Wagatsuma on his side.
They have an interesting relationship that is deeper than it initially appears. Kanamori definitely cares for Wagatsuma who is not as clueless as he might come off. The panel where Kanamori says that they'll be together forever met with silence was a bit heartbreaking
In the future Kanamori is talking to the air that he got elected without Wagatsuma help showing they did drift apart and Kanamori is hurt. Or perhaps Wagatsuma passed away.
