It probably helps that it isn't serialized, so the author can just release new content whenever they feel like it. Being able to work on something when you have an appropriate amount of motivation/inspiration, and aren't under pressure to do so on a deadline, definitely helps keep the quality up, and it can continue for as long as the author wants to keep making it.
