No, they are scheming of their own accord, but the idiot head of the Taira doesn't seem to care that there is a good chance his son will just up and die.

I wouldn't really call Taria Denki a idiot. He plays the role of what but as you said he is always scheming.

Taria Denki first of all only cares about his own power and secondly is quite smart. He know that Seii is using a self-injury stratgy to deal a huge blow to Yamato. Denki is setting up Mitsuhide to fall into Seii's trap so that he may gain more power over the Emperor. Misuhide is Denki only real opposistion.
