My thought is how the fuck did he fix it? But not only that, how did he manage to injure not only his index finger, but his pinky too? Its sewing. It isn't that hard to not hurt yourself. Just dont stab yourself with the needle and you're good. And that still doesn't explain the pinky injury.

I likely am going too deep into this, but I find this trope kind of odd. The whole "bad/new at a task = numerous hand wounds requiring multiple bandages" trope really just doesn't make that much sense to me I guess. Like, i get with cooking, burning your fingers isn't too uncommon, but cuts are. Like, who is juggling with the double sided knives while they are cooking food that doesn't really even need a sharp knife to make. It could be blisters, but again, how minimal do you use your hands where cooking 1 dinner or whatever it is you are doing, riddles your hands with blisters? You aren't doing 14 hours of shovelling without gloves, your chopping carrots or sewing for a few minutes.

@JavelinJoe I can't say I'd be a fan of that trope myself. I have held a needle many times in my life and still prick myself occasionally, but it's such an insignificant wound that it will stop bleeding immediately, unless you are suffering from haemophilia. I doubt even an amateur would give themselves more than a single cut when preparing vegetables for the first time.

I can at least answer how you'd fix that. It's a rubber band with some fabric around it. The piece of fabric would be folded into a round shape around the band, and sown together at the ends to form a loop. You'd tear out all the seams, take a new rubber band, re-wrap and re-sow it around the new band. It would be difficult and time consuming to do by hand; probably not anywhere near worth the time to do it.
