Honestly this version stinks, I've read the book and instead of paying a good homage to the source material it's like Ito-sensei has decided to play up certain bits of the story like crazy to the point it actually undermines the story and ultimate depravity of the main character and just makes it seem more like hes a victim of circumstance not a terrible person (which he is). I don't wanna spoil anything but if you truly care about this story go and read the original book Osamu Dazai wrote, not this misrepresentation.

Agreed. The original feels so much more genuine whereas this one is so dramaticised that it starts to paint a picture of the main character being less of an alien in human skin and more of an eccentric protagonist navigating a fucked up version of reality. Shifting the focus from how off putting the narrator's view of the world is to how off putting other characters are kills the heart of No Longer Human.
