Granted this shows the unhealthy version of that where she made him dependent on her, the heroine, as if she was heroin. From what we’ve seen pretty much all of the capture targets have been F’ed up in the head in some way or the other

I kinda understand it from that point of view, and oddly enough, I sorta sympathize these capture targets.

Just think about it, these capture targets, although human beings, are simply automatons- moving, thinking, speaking and acting all according to the set of scripts written for them.

Thus, no matter how outlandish or even downright perverse their words and actions are (as perceived by the observers, i.e. non plot-related characters, like the King Carlos and his household, or even us readers), those capture target can't think otherwise, especially if those words and actions are in relation to the "game heroine".

...However, in the setting of this manga, this is not a game, but a reality for the people there.

There are actions, there are consequences, and there are lives affected by these consequences.

...and this is another reason why I love (some) "Villainess" mangas like this.

The wording makes it worse, but from my extensive experience reading shit romance novels/manga, I think it's the isolated genius types that fall in love with the first girl that gives them a shoulder to cry on. So it could have been as simple as telling him it's okay to be mediocre, to get on his route and him say she's like his loving mother....though there are those other manga...the darker kind....

this is actually a common thing in otome games and gal games. Basically, most capture target/love interests have some TRAUMAS in their past that made them into who they currently are, though some games push things to the extreme like this, and instead of just normal traumas, they even develop many questionable kinks (SM, necrophilia, narcissism, mothercon, sistercon, brothercon,... the list goes on).

The MC/protagonist will be the "savior" and basically resolves their trauma and even become what they wanted.

The more isekai and romcoms I read, the more onboard I get with ending a series well instead of trying to extract every last bit of content from it.

I know that this story at least has a sequel, but even if it isn't part of the manga I think I'll at least be satisfied with this one as long as they nail the landing (and I have every belief that they will).

Yeah it have a sequel and a "sequel" which is the LN Volume 2, one is after the ending which is more like extras compilation before/in/after story, and the other is a sequel to the otome game with a different main cast (the old characters show up but aren't important characters), which can work as a standalone story, who knows if they end up adapting the LN2 story one day, but at least not for now
