Given how the previous chapter went and seeing him point the phone at different things around the festival, this was the twist I expected and I'm very happy I was right about it.
A device depends on the user and the purpose it's used for. Sometimes it allows the user to do things they couldn't do before; other times it just amplifies what the person does or feel, for better or for worse. We hear about the bad effects of smartphone usage because it's new and we're now slowly understanding and adapting to its presence in our lives. It's not hard to be cynical when you see a chapter like this and think, "this is an ad" or "someone benefits from this." It's good to be skeptical, but it's also fine to appreciate technology and stories for what they are: a vehicle to accomplish a task or to get a message across. And I think we should be okay with and even applaud when something is used well, and criticize when it's not.
