So many little funny and heart-warming moments in the beginning, but the painter had to speak carelessly and put his finger on a wound at the end. But then, it seems that it was already bothering Toraji in secret so if it leads to a conversation about the issue, it's for the best.

Yes, Toraji seems strong and confident, but it's heart-breaking to see how easily catastrophizing comes to him 💔 And that didn't come out of nowhere, so stay tuned for more Toraji torture hours!

I found it especially striking how, when Chuuta was asking Toraji to imagine what a happy future in the Chieda-ya might look like, he couldn't come up with anything, but as soon as Enboku-sensei mumbled something about the very improbable event of Yaetatsu deciding to remarry, Toraji instantly imagined it and had his usual solution ready 😭

I had forgotten that scene! You're right, it's very telling. In that same chapter he comments how it's like he's living a dream. One eventually wakes up from a dream. Toraji can't imagine dreaming forever, but he can imagine a wake up call and he knows how "reality" will be.

That's so true! 🤩 It was his reality for 7 whole years (at the very least) that he felt alone and unwanted and like he'd done something wrong, so he can't just accept this as a new reality and instead thinks of it as a dream.

And in the meantime, he knows that Yaetatsu isn't even actually a widower so he couldn't remarry so easily even on the off-chance he wanted to - but it's not actually about Yaetatsu at all, it's about Toraji's own issues 😭

Toraji's trauma is deep and it doesn't help that their relationship comes with the condition that O-Ten first. So if it was decided that she needed something that would be resolved by them breaking up, they would have to.

Fortunately, O-Ten is smart so I'm sure she won't approve any stupid break up plan that is supposed to be for her sake.

Yes, and those feelings of being doomed/helpless are made even worse by the other rule about Toraji acting as a servant most of the day and therefore unable to make any decisions, such as giving Enboku-sensei the boot, or even to demand to know why Yaetatsu is allowing all that in the first place (this one's kinda Yaetatsu's fault too, but still 😄)

As for O-Ten herself, I'm 100% sure that as soon as she's old enough to understand what's what, she'll be their first and foremost shipper! Now, if only no terrible circumstances would materialize while she's still young...

Yeah, I kinda hope grandpa and Yaetatsu have been friends for a long time now, so he could be a saner and more mature and reliable presence in his life, seeing how bad Yaetatsu's relationship was with his own dad 🥺
And Toraji seems to be struggling hard to stay objective about the relationship when he has all this baggage distorting his view >.< Stay tuned for juuust a bit more Toraji Torture Time!
