There's a clear obsession of a lot of Japanese people in general when it comes to dating high schoolers. It's borderline pedophilic and IDK why they even do this. I've only counted a few mangas where they actually call it out, where a grown ass adult flirting / dating with a high schooler being fucked up.

I get it with them projecting themselves as high schoolers and dating one because it's more on nostalgia factor. But dating high schoolers? And for those who don't know, there's a niche trafficking / prostituting/ fake dating industry for grown adults to partake with teenagers, which is a common knowledge and is still somehow active until this day. There's a ton of newsletters specifically for this ongoing issue and it has been baked into the current cultural climate of Japan. Hell, the entire Idol industry hinges on satisfying Japanese adult's teenage fantasies.

Because Japan has thing where their society cares about image. Shocking revelation I know. Makes total sense a father or mother being a killer would damn their family life. Doesn't help that there is scientific evidence that you inherit personality traits from your parents. So there is basis to it even when said person doesn't inherit negative traits from their parent at all.

Again society thing on the high schooler part. This is just a difference in culture where youth is highly valued. Granted youth in woman is highly valued in all cultures but it's way more prevalent there. Btw this is true for S.Korea and China as well.

The murderer's son thing is definitely a cultural thing, though obviously being abused to add unrealistic levels of drama and conflict. The pedophile thing is not though, definitely illegal no matter how you cut it. There are a lot of shoujo manga that do teacher student relationships, and those are still incredibly creepy but this is way worse. I would still find it disturbing and be against it if it was a 17 year old with a 20 year old, but 15? There's absolutely no amount of mental gymnastics that can justify a relationship like that. I read it holding out hope based on the description that it would be an 18 year old third year, but after learning who the author is the poor moral and logistical decisions make much more sense.

It wasn't so long ago that someone wrote at length about this difference between West and East. Too bad I don't remember the manga and definitely not the chapter to locate the comment. West emphasizes individuality and thus also criminal past only applies to the criminal themselves. East emphasizes communality and thus a criminal in the family is a concrete disaster for the whole family. This same mentality then is reflected in the whole one must not be different from other students and so forth. Hmm... I feel like it was still deeper than that, connected to the East Asian maintaining face culture and so forth.

MC dude's treatment seems utterly unreasonable, but I suppose there's some truth to it in the Japanese society. It's no coincidence the MC used the words "tenant caste system". He's himself, in his whole life, a victim of a caste system where his father's ill deeds doomed him into the shunned caste. Unfortunately this sort of system just creates more criminals when a person is denied the chance to do honest work and be happy, no matter how much they tried.
