Not necessarily. While that is the most common pattern, I have read series where the problem was low self-esteem (and Albert does fit the bill there to a T) and others where it was incited by the deliberate intervention of a third party. There were also one or two where the person merely looked up to the other party or felt that they had "stolen" the position in some way.

I'd say it was when the uncle appeared in person which did it.
