Imma be honest, the typesetting is painful, but the translation itself is good and I still respect and appreciate the work.

Monsters mimicking human speech are always unsettling
Yeah, specifically those that only mimic the speech without any understanding.

It's actually quite funny to me that, for some reason, they're more unsettling than monsters that are capable of proper communication. It's probably because it's obvious that they use mimicked speech only as cruel bait for their prey — humans. I love when they're utilized properly in a story, and it turns a potential rescue mission into an ambush.

I vaguely remember Manticores doing exactly that , at least some versions of it.

In those versions it mimicks the cries of distress of its prey to lure new prey.
Usually prey animals, to attract other hunters/scavengers, but it'd work for humans as well.
All Pantheras ( that's tigers, panthers, and leopards ) have a similar trick..
The cute chirps they can make while looking cuddleable are, in fact, an invitation to Dinner.
Theirs, not ours... Monkey ( that includes us, from their point of view ) is most definitely on their menu. And they've evolved behaviour to let us walk right into that trap...

So yeah... it's unsettling.. Because deep down in our monkey brain we know this, and also know we'd still fall for it.

Kinda reminds me of demons in Freiren saying "Mother...". Human empathy is strong, for better or worse.
