Chances are that giant wolf is already dead. A wound like that would be slow to heal to any degree on its own, so it would bleed and fester. Furthermore, other monsters would see the wounded giant wolf as nice and easy prey. Of course this is all assuming the dude won't go after it to finish the job.

I’m impressed at how this manga has been holding back on gratuitous gore, and only leaning into it during impactful moments like this. That child was torn in half in full view! The sharp contrast from the cheeriness just a few chapters back and these brutal moments serves an emotional impact.

With this sort of trauma, I can understand a little more why aren’t turned out the way he did. Theirs is a whimsically brutal world. I would be afraid to get too close to someone too if I was Rent because the world might decide it was time for another irrational dose of brutality.

They nerfed this impactful scene in the anime (obviously to not have issues with their regulatory boards). But it was a really sad day turning point for Rentt. I think the fairy they saw returned the favor by making Jinlin's soul have the power to protect Rentt (to go to adventures with him or at least Rentt is now partly protected by the fairy.
