If anyone read the novel, is it one where each story is its own "canon" of what if ____ was main girl for accomplishing the goal? Or do they actually difer and somehow converge to have a true story.

The first one is true. I'm not sure what you mean by your second point, but I'll try to explain how the novel goes: the story starts with a main route, and once that is complete, the story diverges from the same specific point in time depending on which girl you choose. Each girl has their own ending for the story. All of them are good endings for the story. For the first 3 girls, the process/journey in which they combat the law is different, but the outcome is the same albeit with slight variations and details. However, 1 girl (the last girl you play) is considered to be the true ending of the novel. This true ending has a very core difference for its ending in contrast to the other 3 endings, and the process is basically combining the core elements of the other three processes/routes into this one for the first half of the story (roughly) and then adding a lot more towards the second half of the story, thus making the true end route a lot longer than the other routes. Basically, there are 3 good endings and 1 true ending.

so no bad ending at all?
like if they failed to change the law, or all of them got captured, etc?

No bad endings. This visual novel is more novel than game since there are only 2 instances in which you can make a choice, and that's just selecting the heroine you want to see. There aren't any choices that lead to a bad end; you're just there for the story of the heroine you chose. Nukitashi is the developer's (Qruppo) first game, so perhaps they made it simple to make it easier for themselves to make the game.

Just finished reading hinami route in the VN.
honestly it's a bit underwhelming and hinami herself got heavily overshadowed by rei in her own route. hopefully the manga give hinami more spotlight here
