I personally don't think that we will, just based on what has been shown from the father; like how by nature of who Durandal's mother was, made Durandal a weaker person from the onset. Dondurma might be a bit eccentric (to say the least), but even from the start she was confident of Ice Cream's talent.

The fact that Ice Cream actually originates from outside the Grasse family, and was brought in by a parent that saw her potential is exactly what is able to provide that narrative contrast with Durandal, who was disowned from his own family by a parent who refused to acknowledge his own.

My impression was that one of IceCream's parents was directly related to the Grasse family. They don't outright say whether they were part of a branch or or in the main family, but my WAG it one of her parents was Dondurma's sibling who had a lesser standing due to a small mana pool.

As for Durandal's father, I can only see him as an antagonist. His attitude will be at the extreme end of the underlying conflict between mages and warriors. Because he uses magic, he has no place in his warrior clan.
