This is a--maybe the--classic of your more real adult life yuri. If anything it's headed for the grittier side. People get drunk, make bad decisions under pressure, aren't as wonderful as they could be, struggle to get by. Somewhere in between all that there's a lovely little love story.

Agreed. The art is somewhat simplistic, but the characters feel like real people (for better or worse). I think one of the main things that stands out here is that this story shows how difficult it is to change yourself. In many manga or other stories, a character has a moment of realization and then suddenly they're a better person. In this story, constant struggle is required, and backsliding is expected.

I go read some yuri manga (or reread in this case) and of course Purplelibraryguy has already commented on multiple of them.^^

One of the best yuri ever! The characters and their actions are so realistically flawed.

It was pretty uncomfortable to read this considering how surreal the author makes these characters as they're like a real living person in real life.

I actually dropped this a couple times and forced myself to complete it finally. The reason I dropped it was because the characters felt so *real* and I wanted to read manga to escape the ups and downs and boredom and depression of reality. The feeling of sadness and purposelessness and failure hit too close to home for me, and I hated this manga for doing that. But, now having finished it and admitted it to myself, this is a really good story about someone dealing with their inner turmoil and trying to love themselves and others around them, and accept the support they're given despite their self-destructive behaviors. You definitely have to be in a certain mindset to read this, but it's well worth it when you can.

A realistic Yuri love story. The road to the happy ending is rocky and bumpy but also endearing and full of life lessons. The main character is so realistically flawed that the whole thing is just great.

Looking at the list of Yuri romance manga I've read, this is one of the lower-rated ones (I generally only look at ones with 8.0 ratings average and up). As I looked at the trend, I realized this is because it has no fluffiness to it. The Yuri fandom typically favors lighthearted affairs that give them hope for their own relationships (given how hard a good relationship of this type is to find in real life). This one probably hits too close to home for a lot of people.

Fuck, this was painful and anxiety-inducing but its a great, grounded L manga. Not a lot of these.

I just read this from beginning to end. And all I can say is what a rollercoaster of emotions that I went through. This is so close to home. The author has my highest regard to the way it was written. I'm glad I read it.

How the fuck is this not one of the top rated yuri manga? Octave is hands down the BEST yuri manga I've ever read and it's also an amazing manga in general, so it's mind boggling to see it rated a mere 8.22. IMO it should be up there with YagaKimi, not in the 7th page of the yuri genre surrounded by a bunch of doujin.
