@rudrax @Athedite it's also an idiom in japan, in olden times (and this actually applied to a fair number of cultures beyond just the japanese) salt was believed to be a purifier of the soul and capable of driving off evil spirits and demons. the japanese would sprinkle salt around the entrance to their homes as a sort of good luck charm to welcome in fortune and drive away evil. now a days it's used as a bit of an insult, saying to put down salt to drive away a person they consider a pain or want removed.
