Unfortunately though upsetting and unfair it is riskier for women to be out alone at night and his concern was warranted but the way he went about it as well as the way he handled the friend thing was just... worrying, while it's fair to concerned it's still her decision to make. His intentions were forgivable but the the way he acted like he was in charge of what she does was upsetting, and I don't like what it could mean in their relationship in the future.

yall going on about sexism and concerning relationship issues and all that but i mean, even in this chapter yaginuma is portrayed as being comedically overprotective, not like this is just some 100% normal thing that every woman in japan is expected to follow whatever their man says and never leave the house alone lmao
like i personally think this was just a way to show how much yaginuma is similar to his mom after all, and if he keeps being so extra i'm sure meiko-chan will tell him to chill and he'll have to learn how to let people make their own decisions just like she did lol

Ichikawa changed to Nakagawa, Minatocho 2-Chome to Kanadecho 2-Chome but the building on the right has the same windows (other street view angles show the same sidewalk fences), the distances are the same, and the style of the pedestrian bridge is the same.

@foist Yes, young men tend to consider themselves invincible, but women overestimate the risk they are at and are encouraged to do so.
If we're attributing blame for whatever reason, did you consider that it is towards young men that people in general feel most entitled to bring violence upon, and it is towards women that violence is most frowned upon?
A young man in a metropolitan city of any developed nation could be subject to violence in a public area without immediate public recourse, and would likely be blamed for it. Women tend to be protected, and have bystanders step in to intervene even if the violence is reciprocal. Women can in fact rain blows upon a young man in public often without public intervention, the public assuming he must have deserved it.

The whole "overprotective" character trait was little more than a gag that was brought up solely to introduce to childhood friend and give us this chapter about self-reflection and nuance. I am not really familiar with the internal civil rules and system of taking over a series.
But I would love to see more of this wonderful manga. 😶
