Yamaoka wasn't flip flopping about the mackerel. First, the translator engine is being wonky. All the parts that says mackerel is actually still Pacific saury (sanma). They weren't discussing two kinds of fish. It's all just saury to help Black with his saury rakugo.

Also in the old chapter it's not that his favourite fish ever is mackerel. It's just that his favourite sushi is that one very specific sort of mackerel that doesn't migrate. I'm sure even for Yamaoka a standard mackerel would not be all that exciting either.

Oh, I didn’t think he was flip flopping. I just wanted to make a note that Yamaoka had stated mackerel was his favorite and that it made sense for him to be upset about it if the quality had dipped.

As for the machine being wonky, that’s entirely believable, but I wasn’t sure if they were discussing a different part of the story, so I didn’t change it like I did when at the end, it started referring to the saury as sardines. I also see that saury is also called “mackerel pike”, so that’s probably where the machine fucked up. I’ll go in and fix it as soon as I can get to my laptop.

Just noting, I've gone back and amended that page. As always, if anyone notices the machine being wonky with an odd TL like that, and I've missed it, please do let me know so I can go back and fix it.

I had a chance to eat saury years ago but it had a very fishy smell. I don't know if it was me or the restaurant but I didn't find saury delicious at all.
