You know it's funny, I think i've seen garlicky food causing Problems from the smell the next day mostly only as a concept in the japanese and british stuff I read, as versus, say, american. I wonder if its a cultural difference...? Mind, I'm willing to accept that it might just be america has other problems when it comes to whats considered 'smelly' food. (F'instance, people can be p fussy about kimchi.)

but even then Imnot sure I see the idea of the smell carrying over to the next day. S'pose Garlic do cling...

As someone who cooks with garlic, I know from experience that the smell can linger on your fingers for several days unless you're very VERY thorough with cleaning.

Different people will have different levels of perceptiveness for it. I don't know if my colleagues ever notice the garlic on my fingers because I think they're also too polite to mention it, but I definitely notice it.

See! That's more what I'm curious about- there being kind of a difference in how much it's remarked on/considered rude to do. So it doesn't come up in american media that I've seen (IE 'oh no I still smell from garlic' as a plotline).

Definitely agree about the cling.

Actually, you know where it does come up in American media?
When vampires are involved.
I can see cartoon characters breathing out garlic clouds to thwart the Scooby Doo vampires chasing them.
