Yeah, this chapter gives me mixed feelings.
On the one hand, it's really nice getting a glimpse into Yamaoka's past and his relationship with his mother.
On the other hand, the message of the chapter seems to be 'have you ever considered maybe she wants to be mistreated?' Which is frankly, a disgusting way of excusing spousal abuse.
It's the 80s. As progressive as this manga can be, there will still be certain issues that the modern reader won't agree with, and it's important that we recognise that.
